John K. Stonebraker, 64, of Topeka, formerly of Emporia, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016. He was born December 15, 1951, in Emporia, Kansas, the son of Eugene C. and Violet (Riddle) Stonebraker. John was raised in Emporia and the family moved to Topeka in 1968. He served overseas in the US Army during the Vietnam War as a cargo handler with the 180th Aviation Company.
After returning from Vietnam, John went to work for General Printing/Graphic Promotions in Topeka for 26 years, and then Barker Printing in Topeka for 12 years, retiring in November 2012. He was a past-member of the Ford Performance Club in Topeka.
John married Jane A. Kapelle on June 15, 1974 in Topeka. Survivors include his wife, Jane; daughters, Shelley Orr and Stacey Boltz (Billy); grandchildren, Boedi and Lexy Boltz and Gavin Griffiths; sisters, Judy Bell (Jody) of Olpe, KS and Linda Brockhoff of Grandview, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Don.
John enjoyed tinkering with classic cars, riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles, hunting, but most of all, spending time with his grandkids.
John was cremated. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel, 1700 SW 17th Street in Topeka. Military Honors will be held at the beginning of the gathering.
An Educational Fund has been established to benefit John's grandkids. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the John K. Stonebraker Memorial Fund, c/o CoreFirst Bank & Trust, 3035 SW Topeka Blvd. Topeka, KS 66611.
