John Leroy Miller

John Leroy Miller, 59, of Pittsburgh, PA., passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at his sisters residence in Berryton after a difficult battle with cancer. He was born on December 30, 1946 in Dodge City, the son of John B and Velma Carttar Miller. He grew up and went to school in Cimarron, KS. In 1969, he moved to Topeka to attend Washburn University. He was a master carpenter by trade and through the years he worked for several construction companies throughout Kansas, Montana and the east coast. He worked in building maintenance in Pittsburgh until 2002 where he was a member of Local No. 95 Operating Engineers. He worked in Houston, TX as a building inspector before returning to Kansas in 2003. In 1996, he married the love of his life, Nancy after a 20 year separation. John enjoyed spending time at the lake fishing and boating with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Eldon "Gus" Miller. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, his son, J.R. Miller of Newman Lake, WA., one brother, Allan D. Miller of Topeka and two sisters, Carol Ridinger and husband, Jerry of Berryton, Rita Cunningham and husband, L.W. of Shawnee. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Angie Brown of Hoyt, and the sister of his heart, Bobbi Ard and husband, Dan of Paola. He will be greatly missed by his neices and nephews, great nieces and nephews and numerous friends and family. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Midland Hospice Care, 200 S.W. Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
