John Wesley Liezert Ii

John Wesley Liezert II, 68, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017.
He was born September 15, 1948 in Wooster, Ohio, to John Wesley and Ethel Adele (Squire) Liezert, Sr. He was a 1966 graduate of Wooster High School. He served as an Army Medic from 1968-1971, where he was stationed in Japan. While in the military, John met the love of his life and best friend, his wife, Judy DeBrovy. They were married on August 8, 1971 in Chevy Chase, Maryland. She survives, along with his children, Kris Tajchman, and husband Wade, John Liezert III and wife, Amanda, and Sara Gowan and husband, Jeremy; his four grandsons, Logan, Carter, Dylan and Brett.
He graduated from Heidelberg University in 1974 with a degree in American Studies and received a B.S. in Nursing from Washburn University in 1981. He was employed at the Topeka V.A. Hospital for 20 years before retiring due to health problems in 2003. He was a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John loved his family and they were his greatest joy. Giving him all kind of grief, in a fun way, was enjoyed by all who knew him. In his free time, John enjoyed time with his pets, yard work, fishing, reading and refinishing furniture.
Honoring his wish, John was cremated. A celebration of life service will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2017 with a reception to follow at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka.
Private family inurnment will be at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st, Topeka, KS 66604, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 10550 Berkley, Suite #200, Overland Park, KS 66212 or to the American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Road, Topeka, KS 66604.
