Johnnelle Marie Hymon

December 12, 1979 — November 24, 2023

Johnnelle Marie Hymon (Lady J) entered this world on December 12th, 1979 in Topeka, KS to John B. Hymon and Johnnetta Marie Brown Hymon. She was the first of three children who all carried the same initials as Johnnetta, J.M.H.

Johnnelle represents a family of artists, musicians, entrepreneurs, culinary genius, creatives in fashion art and decor-but above all are a village of strong individuals who are lovers of family. Her early years were spent in Topeka, Kansas and among her cherished memories at Topeka High School were the moments she spent as a member of the musical groups Choraliers, Chansonettes, and Robed Choir. Beyond her high school graduation in 1998 she was pursuing further education at Johnson County Community College (also KU) to fulfill her dream of becoming a drug and alcohol counselor. Johnnelle desired to be able to help people who are battling addiction and guide them with resources and support into a better life. She was 5 years sober before her passing and gained many rewards for her accomplishments from her support system in AA. Johnnelle was currently employed at Maximus Services LLC, but previously spent a portion of her career in social services, banking, and at the Topeka Veterans Administration. Johnnelle was brought up from early childhood at the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ where she was an active member in multiple sections of the church before branching out to find her own personal higher power. She was always a social butterfly and made an abundance of friends during her lifetime including her former partner/childhood friend Wallace Lee Scott III. On October 3rd 2003 the pair welcomed their first, and Johnnelle's only biological daughter Ahn'Zure (Ahnie Marie Scott). Johnnelle's mom Johnnetta along with Johnnelle's sister Jenny actively participated in the delivery room to welcome Ahnie into this world. This was one of our family's most treasured memories.

Johnnelle was preceded in death by her mother Johnnetta Brown Hymon, maternal grandfather John Brown II, paternal grandmother, Magnolia Hampton Bradley, and cousins Terrell Brown, Diamond Brown, and Eric Jackson.

Johnnelle is survived by her daughter Ahnie (Marcus) (Lawrence, KS), siblings Jennifur (Katie and Nephew Zaire) (Los Angeles, CA), Jordan (Ashley and Nephew Zion) (Nashville TN), Father John (Toi) (Topeka, KS), bonus daughters Chrishe'La, Khade'Ja, and Eniyah, grandmother Lillian Brown, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends. Johnnelle's end of life wish was to be cremated and have her ashes memorialized by planting a tree in her honor. This will lovingly occur on a future pending date at the direction of her daughter Ahnie.

We welcome Johnnelle's extended family and friends to join us in a celebration of her life Saturday, December 2nd, at 10 am with fellowship, food and refreshments to directly follow at Faith Temple Church, Fellowship Hall, 1162 SW Lincoln St. Topeka, Kansas 66604.

In honor of Lady J, we encourage you to wear teal, one of Johnnelle's favorite colors or purple, the addiction recovery movement's official color.

If you are so inclined, in lieu of flowers the family wishes to donate to First Step Rehabilitation Services in Johnnelle's memory. Donation link-https://gofund.me/79fb0489.
