Johnnetta Marie Brown-Hymon

October 26, 1958 — January 12, 2013

Johnnetta Marie Brown-Hymon was born October 26, 1958 in McCook, NE to the parents of John Henry Brown, II and Lillian Marie Brown. She lived out her childhood in McCook, NE, and Dodge City KS, attending public school in Dodge City and graduating with the 1977 Class of Dodge City High School.

Moving to Topeka in 1978, she was employed at Taco Tico as an Assistant Manager and later worked at Hillhaven Nursing Facility, and KNI as a nurse's aide. Shortly after her time in Topeka, she was romantically swept off her feet by John B. Hymon, and shortly thereafter conceived and delivered their first child, Johnnelle Marie Hymon on December 12, 1979. They remained committed in their relationship and rearing of their child until they were joined in Holy Matrimony on John's Birthday {how romantic} on June 12, 1981 at the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, 620 SW College Ave, Topeka, KS, where Dr. Aletha J. Cushinberry served as Pastor {their current Pastor}. The Officiant of the ceremony was Pastor Lucille Luckey {Johnnetta's Pastor prior to coming to Topeka}.

Johnnetta mixed child rearing with furthering her education, laboring in clerical jobs, manufacturing work {Josten's} and later as a steam operator at the Scotch Fabric Cleaner Plant. Johnnetta & John conceived {during that cold snuggle nest '82 winter} and delivered on December 17, 1982, their second child Jennifur Magnolia Hymon. It was after her birth that Johnnetta pursued, and become a Licensed Home Daycare Provider.

Yet craving the birth of their first male child, Johnnetta & John conceived {again during the cold of winter}, and delivered their son, Jordan Michael Hymon on August 31, 1986.

Another apple of their family eye was bestowed upon them when their eldest daughter Johnnelle gave birth to their only granddaughter, Ahn Zure Marie Scott, on October 3. 2003.

This virtuous woman spent her life in service to others. She truly loved her family {Browns & Hymons}, and extended that love to all who she came in contact with. Raised in an entrepreneurial family, Johnnetta put herself totally into her daycare, caring and loving the children and families that entrusted her to provide the highest level of child care. Her daycare was the ministry that God placed in her hand to serve others. As her illness attempted to conquer her, she was determined to retire on her own terms, leaving her hospital sick bed July 27th, 2012 and returning home to actively participate in closing out her daycare in a manner that allowed her families to seek alternate care.

She has taken into her home relatives {and friends} out of hospitals, nursing homes, group homes, and the streets to care for them as long as the Lord would allow. Believing that no one can care for you like family.

Johnnetta was a bank for many who needed help with rent, food, loans to purchase cars, pay bills, and she knew how to get her money back as a way to show others that you must learn to be accountable in handling your finances, and respectful of those who help you learn to help yourself.

She experienced the highest level of love in the 31+ years of matrimony to her Husband John. Together they have intentionally lived their lives as an example towards inspiring others to dare to be the Woman, Man, Wife, Husband, Mother, Father, and Grandparents that God has called you to be. Her children rise up and call her blessed because she was committed to them until the day of her last breath.

Johnnetta was not a victim but was victorious over cancer in her fight to deny all it attempted to take from her. She continued to be a wonder to her doctors who could not understand how she kept going. She did not let cancer, dictate how she would live, often denying herself any medicine that would limit her ability to communicate with family and friends with whatever time she had remaining.

She was committed to see our son Jordan join hands in matrimony with Ashley on November 3rd, 2012. Even though very fragile, she was present in the sanctuary to participate in the ceremony, and later attended the wedding reception.

Johnnetta and John Emphatically, Forcefully, Definitely, Categorically, Ardently, Insistently, Unequivocally, and Vigorously professed their faith in God, allegiance to His invisible Church, and His visible Church, Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ/Worship Center Apostolic, and their Pastor, Suffr. Bishop Dr. Aletha J. Cushinberry. They honor their local Church that is the same ministry that married, carried, and matured them to this very day.

Johnnetta departed time and entered eternity on Saturday, January 12, 2013 and was preceded in death by her Father, John Henry Brown II.

Remaining to serve is her Husband John, Children, Johnnelle, Jennifur, Jordan {Ashley}, Granddaughter, Ahn Zure {Ahnie}Marie Scott, Mother, Lillian Marie Brown, Siblings Greg {Jan}, Sherri {Bill}, Arzella {Rodney}, John H. Brown Jr., Eric Brown, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and close to thirty years of harvest in her daycare that her husband named, "Netta's Nest."
