Jon Henry Johnson, 49, of Topeka, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013 at Stormont Vail Hospital. He was born Feb. 5, 1964 in Topeka, the son of Herbert E. and Shirley A. Johnson.
Jon graduated from Topeka High in 1982. He worked at the Menninger Foundation in maintenance in his early adult years.
Jon is survived by his sisters, Judi Mahaley, (Rich), of Lawrence (temporarily residing in Mumbai, India), and Janene Greene, (Steve), of Topeka; nieces & nephews, Lori Tochtrop and her children, Drew & McKenzi; Kala Grob (Kevin) and her daughter, Madison; Bobby Kennedy (Lauren) all of Lawrence; Steven Greene (Grace), and their children, Ruby Mae & Samuel, of St. Louis; and Kristin Greene, of Topeka. He is also survived by numerous cousins, Kevin Ward, Renee Shumway, Kim Binkley, and JoAnn Stouder, of Topeka; Sheila Ward, of Lawrence; and many cousins in California. Jon is preceded in death by his parents.
Jon is now in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father, where he is free from the pain he suffered through many years of mental illness. Jon was a kind man who would give his last dollar to someone else if he deemed they needed it more than he did. Jon loved music and enjoyed playing the guitar. He had a gift for songwriting and wrote many thought provoking songs. He had a heart for Vietnam Vets whom he admired and were often the sources of his songwriting. Jon will be sadly missed by all those who loved him.
Jon will be cremated and a private family service will be held at a later date.
