Jon Robert Karr

June 7, 1964 — February 25, 2017

Jon Robert Karr, after a brave and courageous struggle with cancer, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2017, in Emporia. Jon was born June 7, 1964, in Emporia. He spent his grade school years in Winfield, Kansas. When he was ten his family moved to Topeka. He attended Pleasant Hill grade school and Northern Hills junior high. He was a member of the class of 1982 at Seaman High School and attended Salina Technical Institute.

Jon was employed by Southwestern Bell/ATT for ten years. He then moved to Emporia to help on the family farm. He was employed by "The Orchard" at the time of his death.

The last four years of Jon's life were spent designing and constructing an 18-hole miniature golf course at "The Orchard". The unique course, "Stonehedge", was built with Kansas stone and Kansas hedge posts. The limestone was reclaimed from Kansas homesteads from 1890-1920's in Rush, Lincoln, Lyon, and Morris counties. The sandstone from fields in Lincoln county, glacial boulders from Northern Marshall county and also antique limestone sidewalks from Emporia were used.

Jon is survived by two daughters, Lesa Ann Karr of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Amy Kathleen Karr of New York City. He is also survived by his parents, Robert and Elaine Karr; niece, Sarah Kettle of Topeka; and nephews, Matthew Watt of Turku, Finland, and Patrick Watt of Lawrence, Kansas. He was preceded in death by a sister, Kristi Lynn Karr-Morgan; and his grandparents, Orren and Kathleen Karr and Jerry and Leone Hartenbower.

No formal services are planned. Cremation has taken place. On a day when the sun is shining and the grass is green, his ashes will be buried in the family plot at Rosean Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Bob and Elaine would ask that you hug your own family a little tighter tonight and be grateful that you can. Tell them you love them. Life is short!
