Joseph A. Bruce, 79, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at his home. He was born on December 31, 1927 in Topeka, the son of Lloyd R. and Lorena Walker Bruce, Sr.. He was a life long Topeka resident. He was employed as an adjustor for the State of Kansas. He attended Shiloh Baptist Church. Joseph married Marlene Troupe. They were divorced. Joseph married Gwendolyn Miller. She preceded him in death. Joseph married Wilma J. Frazier-Bruce. She preceded him in death on April 26, 2006. Survivors include two sons, Ronald Bruce (Evelyn) of Carson, CA, Wesley Bruce of Murray, UT, step-son, Dewey Ickard (Peggy) of Ottawa, sister-in-law, Jeanette Ridley of Oakland, CA, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, an uncle, John Bruce of Kansas City, MO, three nieces, Sherilyn Lee and Cherita Bruce of Topeka and Marvene Sanders of Buena Vista, CA. He was preceded in death by one son, Michael V. Bruce in 1995 and one brother, Lloyd Bruce, Jr. in 1979. Joseph will lie in state from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.
