Joseph "Scott" Neal, 59, of Palm Springs Ca, fell asleep in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.
He was born on December 19, 1963 to Clarence Gene Neal and Betty Jeanne Esquibel-Neal in Topeka, Kansas.
Joseph graduated from Topeka West High School in 1982 before going to Baker University where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration.
As a young man, he was a member of the College Avenue Seventh Day Adventist Church where he served as a musician and later formed a choir, Silvertones of Faith. This choir went on to win several 'small group' awards at Mid-West music competitions. Joseph also played and directed for the Lane Chapel CME Church Topeka.
He later relocated to Overland Park where he was employed by JC Penny's and became a musician for St. Peter CME Church. After living in Overland Park for a short time, he connected with the Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a musician and Director of Music for over 35 years. Joseph was also the Music Coordinator for the Lees Summit Seventh Day Adventist Church and director for Zion travelers Baptist Church.He was employed at Signature Psychiatric Hospital as the Assistant Director of Admissions. He then relocated to Palm Springs, California where he was employed at Eisenhower Medical Center.
Joseph was a part of many community singing groups. His most cherished accomplishment was being a part of the Kansas City Symphony Chorus. He was a talented Christmas Wreath maker, tree decorator, gardener, bowler, actor, was a good cook and enjoyed doing small home improvement projects. Joseph enjoyed traveling and has been to many of the States. He traveled to Europe where he saw England, France, Austria, Switzerland and Germany. He later travelled to Montreal and did a tour of Brazil and the Bahamas. Joseph was a beloved Son, Brother and Uncle to his family.
Joseph is survived by his fur babies; Mikey and Myden, his brother; Rory Gene Neal of Topeka, KS, sister; Gina Michelle (Jasper) Esquibel-Hoskins of Atlanta, GA, Aunt Dorcelyn Miller of Smyrna, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews. A host extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Darryl Steven Neal and Brett DeWayne Neal.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 1, 2023 at Mount Hope Cemetery and Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
