Joseph Quartaro, 78, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center. He was born on March 20, 1932 in Kanopolis, Kansas to Calogero and Caterina Quartararo.
Mr. Quartaro served in the Army as artillery radio maintenance operator and was honorably discharged. He retired from Independent Salt Mine in Kanopolis, KS. He later retired from Mine Safety and Health Administration in 1997. In 2008, he retired from Stormont-Vail where he was a courier for the hospital.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandi Quade of Derby, KS; Candy Francis of Geneso, KS and Laurel Quartaro of Lake Elsinore, CA; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Penny.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 1 at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Lincoln City Cemetery in Lincoln, KS. Mr. Quartaro will lie in state on Wednesday, June 30 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
