Josephine Quarles Minter, 95, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away Friday, March 14, 2014.
She was born October 27, 1918, in Clarksville, Tennessee, the daughter of Henry Edmond and Pinkye Bell Morris Quarles. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers; Robert Quarles, Edmond Quarles, William Quarles and Rueben Quarles; and three sisters; Carnettia Quarles, Ruth Sanford and Rosetta Preston.
She was employed as a nurse at the Shawnee County Infirmary, later served as a Foreign Missionary through the Foreign Mission Board, National Baptist Convention, USA Incorporated. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas.
Missionary Minter was married to John Minter. He preceded her in death in 1963. Survivors include a daughter, JoAnn Martin, Topeka; six grandchildren, Brenda Redmon, Debra (Rennard) Sabb, Gale (Bivia) Martin, Carla (Steven) Crowder, Lavirtes Martin and Dorian (Abby) Martin; 18 great-grandchildren; 45 great-great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 22, 2014, at the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 610 Lime Street, Topeka. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday at the church. Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, 4020 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, is assisting the family.
