Judy Welch, 80, Topeka, Kansas, passed away Friday, Sept. 29, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka.
Judy was born June 15, 1943, in Marysville, Kansas, to Joseph and Hilda (Dolifka) Smith. She graduated from Topeka High School and worked more than 30 years for the State of Kansas. She and her husband, Robert L. Welch, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Judy was loved by all who knew her. She had a quick wit and a warm smile. She enjoyed her flower beds; her neighbors, the Val Gals; water volleyball with YWCA friends; and traveling across the United States with Bob in their RV, spending winters in San Juan Gardens, Texas.
One of Judy's most unique accomplishments was as a member of the Sunflower Sod Stompers Walking Club. Together with her mother, Hilda, they participated in walking events in all 50 states.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, and her son, Mike Philipp. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Bob; daughter Michel' (Jim) Cole; grandsons Jacob Cole and Adam Cole; brother, Dick (Becky) Smith and her daughter-in-law Lisa Philipp.
Family and friends will gather for a celebration of Judy's life from 1 to 3 p.m., Monday, Oct. 16th at Dove Cremations & Funerals, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka. Burial will follow at Valencia Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
