June Hamilton passed away on December 3, 2017. She was born on June 30, 1925 in Cherryvale, Kansas where she spent her childhood. June was the youngest of the four children of Martha and Henry Tuggle who raised their offspring during the depression, enduring the extreme poverty typical of the era.
June attended high school in Cherryvale but graduated from Eugene, Oregon High School in 1943. She worked in the Oregon flax fields before returning to Kansas. She married Al Hamilton in 1946. They spent most of their married life in Fredonia and raised two sons.
She attended Trinity Nursing School in Kansas City, Missouri. Although she was unable to complete the program at Trinity due to contracting scarlet fever, she eventually returned to school and graduated as a LPN, second in her class at Neosho county Community College, Chanute, Kansas. She later obtained her RN diploma from Labette County Community College in Parsons, Kansas. June worked as a RN for several years, retired and later returned to nursing after her husband's death in 2000. She retired from nursing at age 79.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Ben, her sisters, Gertrude and Norma and her husband Al.
June is survived by her sons: Jan Hamilton of Topeka and Patric Hamilton (Perri) of Holton; her grandchildren: Ryan Hamilton (Stephanie), Jacob Hamilton (Ashley), Allison Hamilton Wolf, Marcie Hamilton Frederickson (Ty), Justin Hamilton (Brooke), Janell Hamilton Carter and Miranda Hamilton; plus ten great-grandchildren.
The family will celebrate her life at 3:00PM on January 14, 2018 at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service. Visitation will begin at 2:00PM prior to the service.
