Karen S. Bramlage

January 15, 1959 — March 26, 2024

Karen (Sedlacek) Bramlage, 65, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 in Topeka, KS, after a long and valiant battle with cancer.

Karen was born January 15, 1959 near Marysville, Kansas to Henry Jr. and Ella Marie (Olson) Sedlacek and later raised by her mother and stepfather, Merton Talbot. Karen graduated Summa Cum Laude from Kansas State University, with a bachelor's degree in music education and a performance emphasis in organ.

She married her high school sweetheart, Joseph, in 1980. After college, Karen and Joe moved to Texas and lived there for 20 years before moving back home to Kansas.

Karen and Joe have one daughter, Robyn Jo, born in 1987. Robyn and her husband, Brian, have two daughters, Ellie Marie and Annabelle Jo, and they reside in Overland Park. Karen was a very proud grandma, and she loved spending as much time as possible with her granddaughters.

Karen was also an exceptional teacher, and she touched the lives of thousands of children over her 40-year teaching career. Her greatest joy was sharing her favorite things – cooking, reading, and music – with her family.

Karen began playing organ for church in high school, and her Christian faith was foundational throughout her lifetime. She believed deeply in the power of prayer, and Joe and Robyn are grateful to the countless family and friends who prayed for Karen throughout her years of chemotherapy.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Sedlacek Jr., Merton Talbot, and Ella Marie Talbot. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Bramlage; daughter, Robyn (Brian) Yates; granddaughters, Ellie and Annabelle; and sisters, Wanda Sedlacek and Susan (Alan) Duell; as well as many other loving relatives and friends.

A private memorial service will be held at the Marysville Cemetery at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to American Orff-Schulwerk Association at aosa.org (Karen's favorite music teaching method) or K-State Music Guild at k-state.edu/mtd.

Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. is assisting the family with service arrangements.
