Karen E. Hirst, 65, of Topeka, went to be with her Lord on July 2, 2016 after a twenty plus year battle with cancer.
She was born January 29, 1951 in Warrenton, MO, the daughter of Alden and Darline Bruning.
Karen taught 3rd through 6th grade at Tecumseh South Elementary School for 31 years, retiring in 2005.
She was actively involved at the Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene where she participated in children's and senior adult activities as well as serving as Missionary President for several years. Karen also enjoyed playing table and card games with friends and family as well as various crafts especially scrapbooking. Spending time with her family, most of all her grandchildren, was very important to her.
Karen married Ross I. Hirst on July 20, 1974 in Wright City, MO. He survives.
Other survivors include her son Eric Hirst (Heather) of Topeka and grandchildren Carson and Reagan Hirst.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m.,Thursday, July 7 at the Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene, 730 SW. Fairlawn Rd, where the family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene, 730 SW. Fairlawn Rd., Topeka, KS 66606.
