Karen I. (Whittington) Hawks, 62, of Topeka, gained her wings Sunday, August 15, 2021.
She was born July 18, 1959, in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of Leonard Whittington and Mary (Kidney) Whalen.
Karen owned and operated a group daycare out of her home for over 20 years. She enjoyed enriching the lives of young children. She always welcomed others with open arms and treated them as they were her own children.
Her prized possessions were her grandbabies and loved spending as much time as she could with them. Karen also loved spending time with her family and friends. In her past time, she enjoyed playing bingo and spending time at the casino.
Survivors include her three sons, Gary (Lamika) Dahlene, Ryan (Darlene) Miller, Theodore (Desiree) Miller; grandbabies, Aireon Dahlene, Adrian Dahlene, Te'Leeia Johnson, Dane Miller, Decker Miller, Daxton Miller, Delaney Miller, Kamen Jones, Liam Miller and Rolen Miller; siblings, Sharon (Raymond) Burrell, Linda (Randy) Ridgway, Betty (Danny) Carlson, Wanda (Stephen) Thompson, Donna (Gerry) Reed, Lonnie Whittington and Annie Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother in law, Rocky Brown.
A Funeral Ceremony will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66605. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice.
