Kathleen Rose, 97, of Overbrook, passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Valley View Senior Life in Junction City.
Kathleen was born October 16, 1914 in Fort Scott, the daughter of James and Emma (Welch) Connolly. She graduated from Ft. Scott High School, Ft. Scott Junior College, Emporia State Teachers College and received her Master Degree of Education from Washburn University.
She first taught in a one room school in rural Osage County and then at Overbrook Grade School for 26 years, where she taught 3rd grade and served as interim principal for a year. She retired from teaching in 1983.
She had been a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Lapeer since 1947 where she was active in the Altar Society. She was also a member of the Overbrook Fidelis Club, Hobby Club, Santa Fe Trail Quilt Guild, and the Overbrook Thursday afternoon bridge group. She was active in the Overbook Library where she served on their board as well as on the district library board. She was an avid china painter.
Kathleen married Ernest Rose on September 15, 1938. He died on September 27, 1998. Survivors include sons, Mike (Jean) Rose, Overland Park. John (Mary) Rose, Miami, FL; daughter, Theresa Gatza, Junction City; daughter-in-law, Brenda Rose, Dallas, GA; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; and a sister, Patricia Neff, Albuquerque, NM. She was also preceded in death by a son, Dick Rose; son-in-law, Daryl Gatza; and 5 brothers and sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 22, 2012 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at Lapeer. Burial will follow at the Overbook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday in the Community Room at the Brookside Manor in Overbrook. Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel in Topeka is assisting with arrangements.
The family suggests expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the Overbook Library or the World Federation of Hemophilia's Susan Skinner Memorial Fund, or the charity of the donor's choice.
