Kathryn "Katy" Matthews, 77, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2005 at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center. She was born on July 11, 1927 in Lucas, Kansas, the daughter of Arthur and Vera Cullens Shehi. She attended Topeka schools and graduated in 1945 from Topeka High School. She was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church, a member of the Topeka Genealogical Society, having served as President and the Society's librarian. She was a professional genealogist for 37 years. She married Eugene E. Matthews on September 12, 1945 in Kansas City, Kansas. He survives. Other survivors include four sons, Craig of Ozawkie, Kerry and his wife, Sheri of Berryton, Pat and his wife, Kelly and Steve and his wife, Alice of Topeka, grandsons, Craig, Jeff, Dave, Tom, Steven, Blaine, granddaughter, Morgan, sisters, Pat Bates, Ruth Rose, Jane Montgomery, brothers, Jim Shehi, Henry Shehi, Tom Shehi and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Matthews will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Cremation will follow. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Highland Park United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
