Keith James Huggins
Keith James Huggins, 26, of Topeka, Kansas was born May 22, 1984 and went home to be with the Lord August 22nd, 2010 at 9:37 a.m. due to complications he suffered. He passed away in the hands of his mom and dad surrounded by his family in the ICU at St. Francis Hospital.
He is survived by his parents Patrick and Karen Huggins, his brother Kevin Huggins, all of Topeka; his paternal grandmother Virgina Huggins of Sabetha; his maternal grandmother Shirley Bender of McPherson; 10 aunts and uncles and dozens of cousins.
Keith had a rough start coming in to this world being born 15 weeks early and weighing little more than pound. After many grueling months in the hospital he was finally brought home and became a thriving, precocious little boy. Keith graduated high school from Greenwood Special Purpose School located at KNI in 2004. From then he started attending day services with Sara, Amanda, Julie and others as his attendants at Exploring Life to continue learning and building skills and spent evenings and weekends curled up at home with mom and dad and his trusty pillow. Keith also had Home Health Aides that came in to be with him and care for him over the years. Victoria, who's married to Pat's nephew was one of the aides, as well as a huge part of Keith's life. Kristen Paulsen is also one of the family's favorite aides.
Keith enjoyed eating, playing with his textured toys, head rubs from his dad and his pillow. He spent most of his time in an Indian style position and bent at the waist laid over on his feet. He loved to walk, and would walk for miles if you'd let him, swimming, being held in someone's arms and swaying back and forth. He never met a person he did not like. Did we mention he liked to eat?
Keith was a ray of sunshine, full of life and always brought smiles to any room he was in. His unique personality, energy and spirit will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
Keith will be cremated and a memorial service will be held Thursday, August 26th at 2:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1329 SW 37th St. Topeka, Kansas. Feel free to stay and eat and visit with the family immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Keith Huggins and sent to 3300 S.W. Eveningside Dr. Apt # 11 Topeka, Kansas 66614.
