Kenneth Dale Fergel, 83, Berryton, passed away Sun. Feb. 2, 2014 at a local hospital.
He was born April 1, 1930 in Richland, Ks., son of William and Gladys (Bernhardt) Fergel. He attended Lux School and graduated from Berryton High School in 1947. As a lifelong Cattleman and Farmer, he produced prized prime beef and raised his own hay, feed, and seed. After their confirmation in 1952, he and his family became lifelong members of Hope Lutheran Church. In 1967 he built one of the first all electric homes in Kansas, a testament to his wide range of skills and talent. He joined the Douglas Rural Water District #3 Water Board in 1971 and chaired from 1975 until 2010. He was a KU Sports fanatic and enjoyed billiards.
Kenneth married Brigitte Aunkst on April 23, 1967 (later divorced) and raised three children. Survivors include Joseph (Sherry) Fergel, Topeka, James Fergel (Kim Eckhart), Topeka, and Joyce Fergel, Lawrence, 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Mon. Feb. 10, 2014 at Hope Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW 6th. Kenneth will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota, after 2 pm on Sun. and visitation will be from 4-6 pm.
