Kenneth Ray "Kenny" Hartter, 78, of Topeka, passed away Monday, March 8, 2021.
He was born March 30, 1942, in Sabetha, Kansas, the son of Wilbur E. and Inez I. (Rieger) Hartter, the oldest of eight children born to this union. He was a 1960 graduate of Fairview High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Cuban War and was honorably discharged in 1964.
Kenny was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Topeka, retiring in 2004 after 38 years of service.
Kenny married Norma Rhea Carpenter on July 9, 1961 in Fairview, Kansas. She survives in Topeka. Other survivors include two daughters, Tammy (Donnie) Meeks and Brigette (John) Cowan of Topeka; his son, Kenneth (Sherri) Hartter, Jr. of Topeka; eight grandchildren, Taylor Meeks, Keaton Meeks, Shanan (Jessica) Engroff, Karli Lutz, Traice Hartter, Mason Hartter, Corey (Kylie) Cowan and Lacey (Ryan) Kerwin; two great-grandchildren, Raylee and Rhett Engroff; three brothers and four sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Alexis Meeks.
Kenny enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending his grandchildren's activities and spending time with his canine companions, Nellie and Rowdie.
Honoring his request, cremation is planned. A visitation of family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka, KS. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m., Saturday at the funeral home.
