Kenneth Stewart Huske retired from this life on October 17, 2015. He was birthed on May 6, 1926 in Topeka, the son of Paul H. Huske and Myrtle (Duncan) Huske. He was raised on land his great-grandfather homesteaded in the 1850's. He breathed his last breath on that same land in a home he had built with the help of friends.
Ken attended Washburn Rural High School and received a Bachelor's degree in economics from Washburn University in 1952. He was an avid proponent of education, a trait that he passed down to his children and grandchildren.
He married the love of his life, Margaret (Akers) Huske on September 6, 1947.
Ken served his country proudly on active duty with the United States Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946. He continued that service as a reservist for the Army and Air force from 1946 through 1986 when he retired with the rank of Master Sergeant. Kenneth was a member of the First Congregational Church and the Masonic Lodge.
He leaves behind fond memories, for those who knew him, of camping, jeep rides on mountain trails, holidays at the family homestead and barely edible Bisquick pancakes. Ken never encountered a mechanical problem in his house or on the farm for which he couldn't magically jerry-rig a solution.
He will be missed dearly by Margaret, his children Marlae and Debra; son-in-law Mike and grandchildren Danielle, Lauryn and Jon Huske-Davies; April Davies and Brooke Riffel (Brandon). Also surviving are nephews, Marvin and Mike Huske and their families of Anchorage, AK, as well as numerous other nephews and nieces; Ray Barnes and other friends. He is reunited with his son, Greg; brother Paul and sister-in-law Gerri.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 31st. at 3 p.m. in the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel (37th & Wanamaker). The family will receive visitors for one hour before the service. A private interment will occur at a later date.
In place of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Washburn University Endowment or to Grace Hospice Care.
