Kenneth "Ken" T. Boughton, 84, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka. He was born May 21, 1930 in Emporia, KS, the son of Tracy V. and Anna Cooper Boughton. He graduated from Emporia High School and earned a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Kansas State University.
Ken was employed by the State of Kansas Marketing Division of Agriculture for 33 years including time spent as the Director of Marketing. He retired in 1994.
Ken was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Kansas Christmas Tree Growers Association and was a leader of the Shawnee County District 4-H Club.
Ken married Margaret Layfield on December 30, 1956 in Wichita, KS. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Kenton (Elaine) Boughton of Duncanville, TX, Kurtis Boughton of Andover, KS, two brothers, Maurice (Carole) Boughton of Lakeside, WA, Paul Don (Susan) Boughton of St. Charles, MO and many nieces and nephews.
Private interment will take place in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Highland Park United Methodist Church. Ken will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2015 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel.
