Kevin D. Heckathorn

February 7, 1954 — October 4, 2019

Kevin D. Heckathorn, 65, Topeka, passed away Friday, October 4, 2019. Kevin Duane Heckathorn was born February 7th, 1954 in Wichita, Kansas.

He enjoyed scouting in his early years, football and wrestling in junior high, and fishing throughout his life. He graduated from Topeka West High School in 1972, working construction jobs from Kansas to Florida. Kevin loved listening to classic rock and roll music, reading history, especially about Kansas, and sketching and painting both portraits and landscapes. His natural artistic talent combined with his deep appreciation of antiques as he operated his own business, Custom Woods, restoring and refinishing furniture and continued working in the antique business with a friend in Big Springs, Kansas. Above all, Kevin treasured family and friends.

No matter the obstacle, he was a fighter his whole life but died peacefully from cancer at Oak Creek Senior Living surrounded by people he loved in a place he called home.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Heckathorn and survived by his mother, Marylou Heckathorn (Topeka, Kansas), his sister Karen Barron and brother-in-law, Greg Barron (Alma, Kansas), three nieces, Shawnee (Eudora, Kansas), Cheyenne (La Grande, Oregon), Sierra (Alma, Kansas), and his best friends.

Services will be 1pm Saturday, October 12th at Mount Hope Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th St, Topeka, Kansas.
