Lorraine Margaret Vath Chapman was born August 16, 1921 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to George H. and Eva (Davenport) Vath. At the age of eight she was taken from an orphanage "Grand View Farm" in Council Bluffs, Iowa by George and Ada Vaughn who were her guardians until she married Ford D. Chapman on December 2, 1938.
She loved children, animals, music, poetry, reading and all things of nature except snakes. For several years she enjoyed "clowning around." She visited hospitals, nursing homes, school carnivals, parades and birthday parties. She was "Maggy May." Her favorite bible verse was 121 Psalm and her favorite hymn "I Won't Have to Cross Jordan Alone." Seeing the Statue of Liberty was a highlight in her life.
She met Tennessee Ernie Ford, The Statler Brothers, Oak Ridge Boys, Emmett Kelly, Sr., Emmett Kelly, Jr., and planted a kiss on the cheek of President William Jefferson Clinton! The children, grandchildren, and greats can say "She kissed the President of the United States."

She is survived by her sons: Bill, of Topeka and Tom, of Hoyt; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nephews and nieces.
