La Rue Thomas Mzhickteno (Now Kissucke)
La Rue Thomas Mzhickteno, died Sunday, December 26, 2004 at Midland Hospice in Topeka after a 10 year struggle with Alzheimers disease.
La Rue was born June 12, 1930 on the Potawatomi Indian reservation at Mayetta, Kansas, the son of Pete and Mary Ann Matchie Mzhickteno.
La Rue was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and a member of the Native American Church.
La Rue was a truck driver in wholesale liquor distribution. He retired in 1994 from Premiere Wine and Spirits.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Jo Ann and four children, Brenda Darnall and husband Jim, Emmett; Vernon, Topeka; Steven and wife Vickie, Berryton; Larry and wife Marguerite, Mayetta. Ten grandchildren Lewis Creek, Jancy Romesburg, Karon Gardner, Christopher Mzhickteno, Lucy Creek, Corey Mzhickteno, Christie Mzhickteno, Rachel Mzhickteno, Aaron Mzhickteno, and Jessica Mzhickteno, 11 great grandchildren and one sister Pauline Persinger, Mayetta.
A Tribal Drum service will be Wednesday night at the Dance Ground on the Potawatomi Reservation in Mayetta, Kansas. A celebration visitation service will be Thursday December 30, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Cremation will follow the service.
