Laird Crocker, 88, of Topeka, formerly of Fort Collins, CO, passed away May 26, 2012.
He was born November 4, 1923, in El Dorado, KS, the son of Arthur W. & Clara K. (Ramsey) Crocker.
Laird was a graduate of the University of Colorado.
Mr. Crocker served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946 during WWII.
He was employed as a chemical engineer by DOI Bureau of Mines for 35 years, Skelly Oil Company-Texaco, St. Joe's Zinc Company and Beechcraft, where he built 20 passenger gliders.
Mr. Crocker was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Navy Chorus.
He enjoyed flying, photography, playing guitar, singing, painting and mountain climbing.
Laird married Ruth C. Holt in 1956, she precedes him in death. Laird then married Shelia Sweany in 1994, she survives. Other survivors include a son, David A. Crocker; four step children, Kathleen (John) Estes, Virginia (Joe) Kurzen, Claire Brown and Rosemary Honn; 9 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a sister Kathleen (Paul) Bacheller.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date. The Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
