Larry J. Garretson, 56, of Topeka, Kansas, died, November 6th, 2010 at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center following a recent illness.
He was born, August 6, 1954 in Kansas City, MO to parents William A. Garretson and Betty J. (Isenberg) Garretson. He was one of four children.
He grew up in Desoto, KS and graduated from Desoto High School in 1972. He later attended carpentry school and was a member of Carpenter Union #2279 in Lawrence, KS until his retirement in 1991 from the trade. Larry relocated from the Lawrence area to Topeka in 2006.
Along with carpentry and woodworking projects, he loved to work in his yard. He was often complimented on how nice his lawn looked or how well his flowers were blooming. Some of Larry's other interests included mechanics, antiquing and watching the University of Kansas Jayhawks play basketball.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Michele and David Billam of Bonner Springs, KS; two grandsons, Boston Henry and Garrek Billam; twin sister, Lisa Garretson, Kansas City, MO; and sister and brother-in-law, Cherie and Steve Joens. Other survivors include a niece Alison Joens, nephew Daniel Joens and two second nieces, all of Kansas City, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bruce W. Garretson.
A service is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Funeral Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd., in Topeka.
