Larry Lee Briggs, 77, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at his home. He was born August 20, 1938 in Topeka, Kansas the 9th of 10 children of Bert Franklin and Myrtle Bessie (Cass) Briggs family. He was preceded in death by his parents and family members, Alta Lee (Briggs) Thompson (Charley); Mamie Marie (Briggs) Newman (Russell); Avis Veleta (Briggs) Flickinger (Dale); Marjorie Ethel (Briggs) Gorrell (Harold); Dorothy Mae (Morrison) Reeves (Harold); Earl Junior Morris (Thelma "Dee"); Lela Marie (Briggs) Reb of Topeka; Richard Franklin Briggs (Lucile) of Everett, WA, and Shirley Ann Briggs. His surviving family includes one brother-in-law, John Reb of Topeka.
Larry graduated from Auburn High School in 1956. He owned several businesses and worked for financial institutions. He was CEO/Manager for Palmer News Company for 35 + years. He spent his retirement with close friends of the Kaw Valley Drivers Studebaker Club.
Larry was involved in many organizations: Past Distinguished President of the Breakfast Optimist Club, Boy Scouts of America, 501 PTO and PTA, Order of Eastern Star, Masons, York Rite, Arab Shrine Temple, Knife and Fork Club, Crestview United Methodist Church, Past President of Auburn High School Alumni Association, Kaw Valley Studebaker Drivers Club and Topeka Genealogy Society.
He married Rachella Lee Bradley June 14, 1959 at First Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas. She survives. They were married 56 years. In 1965, they moved to Springfield, Missouri returning in 1966. To this marriage four children were born: Brian Lee Briggs (Tracy), Daryl Lee Briggs, Aaron Lee Briggs and Wendi Lee (Briggs) Rieb (Kenny). He is also survived by six grandchildren, Ty Lee Briggs (Jenny), Bethany Lynn (Briggs) Akin (Lucas), Jacob Lee Briggs, Austin Thomas Kelly, Alexis Lee Kelly, all of Topeka, Kansas and Zachary Lee Briggs (Heather) of Lawrence, Kansas; four great-grandchildren: Cooper Lee Briggs, Claire Noelle Briggs, Seth Lee Briggs and Addison Jo Akin.
Family and friends visitation for Larry will be from 1:00 – 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Auburn Civic Center, 1020 SW Washington, Auburn, Kansas. Graveside and Masonic services will follow at the Auburn Cemetery, Auburn, Kansas.
