Larry J. Light, 70, of Topeka, passed away following a long battle with lung cancer Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Midland Hospice House.
He was born July 31, 1939 in Sedalia, Missouri the son of William H. and Opal Marie Light. Larry graduated from Sedalia High School in 1956 and went directly into the Navy for one tour on a P.2 V as a radar operator.
He has resided in Topeka since 1960. He worked at Santa Fe Railroad and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company before owning Larry's Trenching, Inc. He was employed with Security Benefit from 1992 until retiring in 2002.
Larry married Judy Garrett September 11, 1959 at First Southern Baptist Church, Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Denise Munoz, Topeka; Shari Ternes (Mel), PA; one sister, Donna McDermott (Mike), Auburn, KS and eight grandchildren, Mike and Adrian Munoz; Melissa, Amanda, Abigail, Lydia, Emily and Isaac Ternes.
Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2009 at First Southern Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Midland Hospice, Inc., 200 S.W. Frazier Cr., Topeka, KS 66606.
