Larry Raymond Rainwater

Larry Raymond Rainwater, 62, Topeka, passed away on January 21, 2009 of pancreatic cancer. He was born August 2, 1946 at Cape Fair, Missouri, the son of Ralph and Pauline Madison Rainwater. He grew up on a small homestead in Cassville, Mo.

Larry attended business college in Pueblo, Colorado where he studied telegraphy. When his schooling was completed, he went to work for the Rock Island Railroad as a telegrapher until he entered military service in 1966. Larry is a Viet Nam combat veteran, having served in the United States Marine Corps until 1969. He then resumed employment with Rock Island for eighteen years.

Larry started his own business, Rainwater Odd Job Service in 1986 doing home and business repairs. He continued in this until September of 2008 when illness forced him into early retirement. Many of his customers have sent cards, notes, and letters of appreciation for Larry and his assistance throughout the years in their homes and businesses. The family wishes to express special thanks to everyone who communicated their appreciation, support, and encouragement to Larry.

He leaves behind his wife, Jan, of the home; a daughter, Tracie Haubold and husband Roger, and an infant grandson, Cole. He is also survived by two brothers: Charles Rainwater, Conway, MO and Gary Rainwater, Buffalo, MO along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 37th and Wanamaker. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 17th and Fairlawn. Larry will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Midland Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606 or to Grace Chapel, Box 89, Carbondale, KS 66414.
