Laverna Long

LaVerna Long, 85, loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at Topeka Presbyterian Manor. She was born on March 20, 1920 in Harveyville to Leonard and Bertha Tucker Myers. She married Lewis W. Long on February 23, 1939. He preceded her in death on February 16, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Faye Jones and two brothers, Ray and Lee Myers. LaVerna enjoyed bowling, sewing, camping, fishing and country music. She lived most of her life in Topeka and had worked a number of years in retail sales. Surviving Mrs. Long are two sons, Donald L. Long, Sr. and wife, Carolyn of Spokane, MO and Vincent L. Long and wife Luann of Topeka, a sister Lucille Hinck of Burlingame, a brother Roy Myers of Topeka, Grandchildren, Michelle Varney, Dawn Kramer, Donald L. Long, Jr., Justin Long and eleven Great-Grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Long will lie in state after Noon Monday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Monday afternoon. Memorial contributions may be given to Heart of America Hospice, 3715 S.W. 29th St., Suite 20, Topeka, Ks. 66614.
