Lawrence Robert "Larry" Lierz, 75, Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at Aldersgate Village.
Larry was born September 1, 1935 in Seneca, the son of Lawrence and Melinda (Hasenkamp) Lierz. He attended school in Wetmore.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He had been a barber and retired as a locksmith in 2003.
He had been a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, D.A.V., and was a past president of the Kansas Barber's Association.
Larry was united in marriage to Darlene Mitchell on January 10, 1957 in Marshall County. She survives. Other survivors include son, Kenneth Lierz, Topeka; daughters, Donna (Rick) Cobb, Columbia, MO, Stacey (Jerry) Ziegler, Topeka, Jeanette (Bernie) Beilman, Topeka, Stephanie (Dave) Kinnison, O'Fallon, MO; 12 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and siblings, Geraldine (Lou) Edwards, Wilma (Norman) Ross, Norma Jean (Don) Hirt, Bob (Gerrianne) Lierz, Shirley (Orville) Hutflus, and Alberta (Larry) Tanking. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leonard, Leroy and Walter Lierz.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Larry will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. today and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
