Lawrence E. Young, 90, of Tecumseh, formerly of Russell, KS, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2012 at his residence.
He was born August 16, 1922 in Russell, the son of Paul E. and Selma Becker Young. Lawrence resided in Russell for most of his life, prior to moving to Tecumseh to be near family in 2011. He was an Army Air Corp veteran of WWII. He was employed by Fluid Packed Pump Company for many years prior to retiring in 1981. He was a charter member of Bible Baptist Church in Russell and attended East Side Baptist Church in Topeka.
Lawrence married Mary Elizabeth Dean on September 6, 1942 in Wichita. They recently celebrated both, his 90th birthday and their 70th wedding anniversary. She survives. Other survivors include their three sons, Kent (Kathy) Young, Kurt (Pamela) Young, Kyle Young, five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and one sister, Alberta Cox.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at East Side Baptist Church in Topeka. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Bible Baptist Church in Russell. Burial will follow in Russell City Cemetery. Lawrence will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
