Leah Latricia Mayo, 55, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2015. She was born July 5, 1960 in Camden, New Jersey to the late Shirley Anne Potter and Joseph Johnson Sr. She was one of seven children. She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Johnson. Leah grew up in a Christian environment and later gave herself to the Lord.
Leah graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Camden New Jersey. She went on to earn an Associate's Degree from Washburn University. Leah worked for the State of Kansas, retiring in 2006.
Leah married Joseph St. John Mayo on February 14, 1981. She lived in New Jersey until 1990, before moving to Topeka with her husband, her daughter and a few family members.
She leaves to mourn her passing: her daughter, Kimberly Mwangi; son-in-law, Samuel Mwangi; grandson, Kameron Mwangi; sister, Theresa Vance; brothers Joseph Johnson Jr., Michael Johnson, Jerome Johnson, Kyle Johnson and Charles Potter Jr.
Leah was cremated. A Home Going Celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at Southwest Baptist Church, 2901 SW Eveningside Drive in Topeka. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service.
