Lebanon "Leb" Gardenhire, 98, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2009. He was born on March 29, 1911 in Alma, the sixth son of Samuel and Lina Davis Gardenhire. He was raised in Alma and received his early education through the Wabaunsee County School system prior to moving to Topeka in 1942. He was employed by the Rock Island Railroad Co., Magus Sheet Metal Company and Morrell Packing Company before becoming a general building contractor. He was a long time member of Asbury Mount Olive United Methodist Church. Leb married Evelyn Alexander on June 14, 1934 in Alma. She preceded him in death on October 5, 1970. Survivors include one son, Charles Floyd Gardenhire of Seattle, WA, one brother, Alex Gardenhire of Topeka and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 21, at Dove Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Topeka Cemetery. Leb will lie in state and the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
