Leland M. (Jack) Niehaus, 87, Topeka, passed away at his home, Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004. He was born Nov. 14, 1917 in Netawaka, KS the son of John and Mary Linnemann Niehaus. Jack served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 140th Division in Field Artillery, Jack was stationed in the South Pacific and was awarded the Bronze Star. He worked on the family farm until joining the service. He worked as a carpenter until his retirement. He married Florence Johnson, March 23, 1942 in Holton, KS she passed away in 1994. He was preceded in death by a twin sister, LaVerne Brownfield, and a brother, Loren Niehaus. Jack is survived by two sons, Jerry Niehaus, Topeka; Rodney Niehaus, Carbondale; daughter Leah Porter, Topeka; sister, Lois Sewell, Holton; three grandchildren Matthew McClain, Marc McClain, Jill Morrow; four great-grandchildren, Ryan Morrow, Devon Cox, Jason McClain, Riley Morrow. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Interment will be in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery where Military Honors will be conducted by a U.S. Army Ft. Riley Funeral Detail.
