Leland S. "Lee" Weckbaugh, 84 of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, May 02, 2009 at Brewster Place. He was born on May 6, 1924 in Los Angeles, California to Louis G. and Lilly M. (Moumblou) Weckbaugh.
Lee graduated in 1942 from Beverly Hills High School in Beverly Hills, CA. He received his Bachelor's of Science in Architectural Engineering from the University of Kansas in 1949. On May 30, 1946 he married Ethel M. Dahlstrom in Topeka. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during WWII with rank of Petty Officer First Class radar operator. Lee was an engineer with Finney and Turnipseed for nine years, then with Van Doren Hazard Stalling Inc. for three years. After that, he worked for Capital Iron Works Company for 25 years, retiring as Vice-President in 1986. He was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge # 17 A.F. & A.M., American Legion Post No. 1, V.F.W. Post No. 1650, KAW Valley Wood Carvers, life member of American Society of Civil Engineers and International Woodcarvers Society, Inc. Lee was an avid woodcarver/woodworker.
Survivors include, his wife Ethel, three sons, Larry L. of Dunkrik, MD, Terry S. of Kansas City, KS, and Gary D. of Topeka, KS, a sister Ruth Holt, brother Ernie Weckbaugh and their spouses, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6 at the Highland Park United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Topeka Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave, Topeka.
