Leo M. Elskamp, age 67, of Topeka, Kansas, died Friday, May 5, 2006, at Stormont-Vail Healthcare in Topeka, Kansas. He was born February 18, 1939, at Potosi, Wisconsin, the son of Mahlon and Hannah (Reynolds) Elskamp. He was a part time service manager for Cottman Transmission and had worked as a service manager for several car dealerships in Topeka before retiring. He was a member of the American Legion Post #1 in Topeka and attended the Central Park Christian Church. He was a US Army veteran of the VietNam Conflict. He was married April 10, 1964, at Topeka, Kansas to Shirley Leach Dettmer. He was preceded in death by his father, Mahlon; 1 brother, Mark and 1 sister, Susie Elskamp. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Elskamp of the home in Topeka, Kansas; 2 sons, Rick Elskamp and wife Anna and children Sheridan and Shelby of Tecumseh, Kansas and Randy Elskamp and wife Stacey and children Madison and Alec of Topeka, Kansas; 1 step daughter, Sherilyn Cook and husband Donovan of Topeka, Kansas and Sherilyns son Jamie McDowell of Sarasota, Florida; his mother, Hannah Elskamp of Potosi, Wisconsin; 4 brothers, Neil Elskamp of Chetek, Wisconsin, Carl Elskamp of Bountiful, Utah, Gary Elskamp of Potosi, Wisconsin and Keith Elskamp of Dubuque, Iowa; 2 sisters, Marion Mason of Potosi, Wisconsin and Esther Hesse of Madison, Wisconsin. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel in Topeka, Kansas. Respect calls may be made from 1 to 8 PM Monday at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday. Burial will be in the Foster Cemetery. The Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home of Riley, Kansas is in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established for the American Heart Association.
