Leon H. Reekie, 66, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at Midland Hospice House after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on October 28, 1942 in Ottawa, the son of Wilbur H. and Margie E. (Watts) Reekie. Leon was raised in the Ottawa area. He was employed by Meiers Ready Mix before retiring in 2002 due to his health. He also owned and operated 4-Corners Auction House. Leon married Phyllis A. Farrar on August 19, 1961 in Chanute. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Brooke (Alan) Coffman of Brighton, CO, one son, Scott (Karla) Reekie of Mesa, AZ, six grandchildren, Toby, Tyler, Jordan, Colton, Carson and Kaitlyn, one sister, Shirley Buerman of Eudora and one brother, Rodney Reekie of Topeka. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Leon will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Midland Care Hospice Services, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
