Leona DeLeon Tate, 88, of Topeka, passed away, Monday, August 16, 2004 at her home.
She was born August 23, 1915 in Coal Glen, PA the daughter of Isaac and Minnie (Morley) Sayers. She was a longtime resident of Clearfield, PA moving to Topeka in 1999 to be near her son and family.
She was a member of the Central Church of Christ, Topeka. Leona was member of the Mission Tower Ladies Quilting Group.
After many years of service she retired from Leitzinger's Department Store, Clearfield, PA. While living in Clearfield she was an active member of the Westside Methodist Church.
She married Harold DeLeon on April 11, 1936. He preceded her in death January 17, 1983. She was also preceded in death by her parents and four brothers. Survivors include:
One son, John DeLeon and his wife Beverly of Topeka, KS
Two granddaughters, Kimberly Shumate and Lesley Elliott
Two great grandchildren, her sister-in- law, Eva Sayers, and nieces and nephews.
Leona will lie in state after 12:00 noon Saturday August 21, 2004 at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. The family will greet friends at 3:00 p.m. Saturday with funeral services to follow at 4:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will be Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at the Bradford Cemetery in Woodland, PA.
