Leota Marie "Lee" Ellis, 90, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019.
She was born April 19, 1928, in Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest M. and Nellie Ellen (Marcellus) Endly. She was a 1946 graduate of Emporia High School.
Lee and her husband, Les, co-owned and operated the Plaza IGA Grocery Store in Chanute, Kansas. Prior to that they were part owners and operators of the Pence IGA Grocery Stores in Paola and Iola, Kansas retiring in 1990.
She was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church, Topeka. Over the years she was also active in the Newcomers Club of Topeka, The Red Hat Club and numerous Bunko, Bridge and other card clubs.
Lee married Lester D. "Les" Ellis on September 25, 1948 in Emporia, Kansas. He preceded her in death on May 26, 1995. Survivors include her son, Gregory Scott "Greg" Ellis, and his wife, Anne Le, Belmont, CA; her daughter, Pamela Lea Ellis, Valley View, TX; four grandchildren, Samantha Jumisko, Nicole Ellis, Alexandra Jumisko and Kelly Ellis; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Janet S. Robinson, Topeka; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Patricia M. Leonard and Elaine J. Pasquarello.
Honoring Lee's request, cremation is planned. A celebration of life gathering will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka.
