LeRoy Artzer, 82, Topeka, passed away May 18, 2010 at Aldersgate Village. He was born in Topeka on August 4, 1927 to Adam and Margaret (Hefner) Artzer. He attended Hayden High School until 1945, before serving his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the submarine, U.S.S. Sea Cat, and was later employed as a bridge superintendant for Shawnee County. He married Grace Dick on February 13, 1954 at Harrisonville, Missouri. She survives at Aldersgate Village. LeRoy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Eagles and American Legion Post 400, both of Topeka.
He is survived by his wife, Grace; daughter Barbara Willard (Ron); grandchildren, Linda Gravenstein of Lawrence and Dennis Willard of Topeka; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandsons; a great-great granddaughter; his sister, Lorene Eilert of Topeka, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, and 3 sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 21, 2010 at Mt. Hope Cemetery. LeRoy will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 400, 3029 NW US Hwy 24, Topeka, KS 66618 or the Alzheimer's Association, 4125 SW Gage Center Dr., Suite LL-15, Topeka, KS 66604.
