Lewis Jean Sedge, 80, Topeka, KS, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at a local hospital.
Lewis was born June 17, 1931 in Kansas City, MO, the son of John and Mary (Haroff) Sedge. He graduated from Odessa Missouri High School and Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO.
He taught Industrial Arts in Oskaloosa, KS and Eisenhower Junior High and Topeka High School, retiring in 1991. He later worked as a Field Enumerator with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He also owned an operated Sedge Janitorial Services for 27 years.
He was a member of Berryton United Methodist Church.
Lewis married Zelma Elizabeth Bailey on April 14, 1951. She survives of the home. Other survivors include sons, Ronald Dean Sedge, Independence, MO, Richard Alan Sedge, Mayview, MO,Raymond Douglas Sedge and wife, Joan, Denton, TX; daughters, Helen Louise Sedge, Montgomery, NY, Susan Elaine Cobb and husband, Pete, Lawrence, KS; grandchildren, Lori Miller, Amy Withers, Stefanie Hudson, Brent Douglas Sedge, Jessica Ashley Ozenbaugh; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Jocelynn, Luke, Lewis; and niece, Cindy Troutman. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Wayne Sedge.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Higginsville City Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. Lewis will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
