Lila Czarina (Edwards) Haney, 93 of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022
She was born February 16, 1928, in Holton, Kansas, the daughter of Albert Matthew Edwards and Edna Czarina (Fink) Edwards. After graduating from Holton High School in 1946, she drove a Model A Ford to Topeka to start work at Kansas Power and Light. She joined the KP&L Girls Club and soon became President of the lady's organization. Lila married attorney William E. Haney on September 21, 1950. They had two sons, Stephen and Stuart. Lila continued with her civic duties and became President of the La Sertoma Club in 1964, at the same time her husband became President of the Evening Sertoma Club. Everywhere Lila and Bill lived, she became active in the Christian Church and devoted much of her time the church's activities. When she moved back to Topeka in 2006, she rejoined West Side Christian Church. Lila never forgot her rural roots and cherished a picture of her driving the tractor and pulling the combine on her parent's farm. She loved her animals from her favorite horse to the wild geese she fed from her patio door in Bartlesville, OK.
She is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and four sisters, her husband Bill on March 21, 1993, and son Stuart on April 25, 2020. She is survived by her son Stephen and wife Nancy of San Antonio, Texas and daughter-in-law Paula-Leszyk Haney of Leesburg Virginia; three grandsons: Brandon and Claire, Conrad and LaTonya; and Colton; two great grandchildren Rylan and Orianna-Czarina; and many nieces and nephews.
Honoring her request, cremation is planned. A memorial ceremony will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel is assisting the family.
