Lillian Marie (West) Duer, 95, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Midland Care Hospice House of natural causes.
Mrs. Duer was born in Topeka on October 5, 1915, the daughter of James Edwin and Evonia Elsie West. She lived her entire life in Topeka, graduating from Topeka High School and Strickler's Business College. Her first job was at Capper Publications. She later worked for the State of Kansas for 33 years as a secretary and administrative assistant to the Director of Institutions, retiring in 1975.
She was a former member of the Third Christian Church, Beta Sigma Phi and the National's Secretary's Association.
Mrs. Duer is survived by her sister, Grace Weeks, a niece Linette (Terry) Monson, all of Topeka, nephews Steven Weeks, Cincinnati, Ohio and David (Sandra) Weeks, Sherwood, Oregon. Also surviving are three great nephews, two great nieces, one great-great niece and two great-great nephews.
She was married and divorced from B.M. Roberts. In 1947, she married Irvin M. Duer, Jr. He preceded her in death on November 12, 1996.
A graveside ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 17 at the Mount Hope Garden East Mausoleum. The family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the Mount Hope Garden. Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
