Linda Gail "Gail" Gunter Cooper died peacefully on November 18, 2017, at Brookdale Nursing Home after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Gail was born December 12,1940, in Tupelo, Mississippi, to Catherine and Alan Gunter. She was the younger sister of Gary Gunter.
After graduating from Tupelo High School, she attended Southern Miss where she graduated with a Bachelor's in Music. She was proud that she was the first female high school band director in Mississippi. She went on to receive her Master's in Counseling at the University of Alabama (Roll Tide). In addition, she received a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Kansas.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents and brother. She is survived by her husband, Steve Cooper; three children, Jason, Jeff, and Stephanie Smith; two step-sons, Hugh and Eric Cooper; three grandchildren, McCall, Mary Madison, and McClain Smith; as well as a niece, Gabrielle Gunter Cooper; and great-niece, Alexandria Wallace.
Gail was a therapist in Topeka, she began her career at Family Service and Guidance Center before starting her own practice, she thoroughly enjoyed her work. Alabama Football and Kansas Basketball were two of her passions. She also loved to travel and enjoyed being outdoors in the sun including hiking, biking, tennis, and scuba diving.
A memorial ceremony to honor her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, 4020 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66606, where the family will receive guests one hour prior to the service.
