Linden R. "Lin" Simmonds, 67, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2013 at his home. He was born January 26, 1946 in Agra, KS, the son of Albert and Agnes Schoonover Simmonds.
Lin graduated from Kennsington High School in Kennsington, KS in 1964. He served as an infantryman in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He had resided in Topeka since 1973. Lin owned and operated L&K Tire and Battery which he opened in 1978 until he closed the shop due to health reasons. He was an avid KU Basketball fan.
Lin married Linda M. Smith on February 11, 1978 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include their children, Angela McCain of Topeka, Lei Barraclough and husband, Daran of Topeka, five grandchildren, Tyler, Cody, Kaleb, Gracie and Sierra, three brothers, Rex Simmonds of Topeka, Richard Simmonds of Loveland, CO, and Jim Simmonds of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Alberta Tuxhorn, George Simmonds, Von Simmonds, Jerry Simmonds and Ken Simmonds.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Topeka Cemetery. Lin will lie in state after Noon Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 p.m. The family requests that those attending the service on Wednesday to feel free to dress in KU Jayhawk attire. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Philip Billard Post No. 1650, V.F.W., 3110 SW Huntoon St., Topeka, KS 66604.
