Lloyd J. "Swede" Kimble, Jr., 85, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born on December 23, 1923 in Chanute, KS, the son of Chester L. and Mary L. Armstrong Kimble. He was raised in Chanute. He was an Air Force veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He had resided in Topeka since 1952. He was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad for 40 years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion. Swede married Marian I. Black on May 17, 1947 in Neodesha, KS. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Gary Kimble and Douglas (Janet) Kimble, three grandchildren, Amy (Scott) Salazar, Shelly (Casey) Koehler, Kevin (Jamie) Kimble and two great-grandchildren. Swede was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Neil. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery southeast of Topeka where military honors will be presented by a burial detail from Whiteman Air Force Base, Knob Knoster, MO. Burial will follow. Swede will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel.
