Lois Jean Jackson, 81 years young, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, January 29, 2010. She was a Topeka native and worked 49 years for the state of Kansas, beginning her years of service at Topeka State Hospital and ending at Kansas Neurological Institute. She was born February 8, 1928 to Thelma Marie and Perry Arthur Woolridge. She was preceded in death by her parents. After retirement, Lois enjoyed watching classic movies, her soap operas and being the family Matriarch to five generations. One to never act her age, Lois loved dancing and could often be found on the dance floor keeping up with her great-grandchildren. Family meant the world to her. In her passing, Lois leaves behind her daughter, Cynthia Quarterman; five grandchildren, Kevin, Keith(Shanna), Kimberli(T.C.), Kirk(La'Tarsha), Kristopher(Andrea), eleven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Ky'esha, Devyn, Blake, Kirk, Jr., Brandon, Tara, Jaylen, Kristopher, Jr., Brandi, Ada, one great-great-grandson, Ezekiel, a foster-daughter, Mae Graves, a foster-grandson, Charles Robards and a host of friends. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at New Mount Zion Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Lois will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel.
